“Tess is the most organized, enthusiastic and charming watercolor teacher I have ever had!

She organized a beautiful house for us in Antigua, fabulous private chef for the week, and even had chairs, portfolios, extra supplies and water jars for everyone! She planned each day’s trips perfectly in order to let us see and paint all the loveliest parts of the island!

Plus, she gave us short manageable lessons that were suited to beginners as well as more experienced artists, e.g, using washes for skies, painting palm trees and hibiscus. I loved Tess and her husband and feel like we are now pals!”

Art Courses in Antigua:
An Overview of the Week

The start of a special week in a tropical paradise.
Breakfast at 9 am. Start class at 10 am with a stop for lunch, finish 3pm. On the first day you will become familiar with your materials and learn about colour and water colour techniques. We are surrounded by beauty so in the afternoon painting at home will be fun.
I found we had to discover a completely different palette than the ones we are used to for the glorious  colours of the Caribbean.
I will go through the colours we need. Colour mixing and brush work, we will also discuss the week to come and through techniques in preparation of the different places we will be painting.
I will also teach you some of the techniques you will need for you morning of painting in the fabulous rainforest garden of Artist Sally Harker at Fig Tree Studio.

We will go to the rainforest for the morning.
Sally Harker’s Gallery is full of local artist’s work including her own beautiful work and inspired us to paint the tropical plants in her garden.
We go back to the Villa for lunch and to continue with the mornings work in the shade of the Villas spacious dining room.

Morning I Will Teach You About Perspective And Painting Buildings And The Colours You Will Need For Todays Work.
We will be painting at Clarence House and Dow’s Hill and will take a picnic with us.
We will return to the villa in time to work on your paintings or sketches at home.

Sheer Rock and Coco Bay. Both amazing places to paint.
In the morning I will prepare you for our painting day out. We will paint first at Sheer Rock in the morning
Have lunch at the Restaurant of Coco bay resort and in the afternoon paint in the beautiful gardens of Coco Bay Resort.
And then return to the villa for a relaxing evening and a Caribbean dinner.

Morning Palm Trees at the beach and hopefully a visit with the fabulous Island Artist Gilly Gobinot.
Gilly’s palm trees really capture the scene in Antigua.
We will have lunch at the Villa and continue to work on Palm Trees at the beach, which is just two minutes from the Villa.
Thursday evening is sundowners at Shirley’s Heights listening to music of the steel drums
and watching the sun go down over English Harbour and Nelsons dock yard.

After lunch at the Villa I will help you go through your weeks work and any finishing touches you would like to do on your paintings before our little show that we do for ourselves and friends. With cocktails and canapes followed by dinner by the pool.
Fond farewells and airport drop off.
